Responsibilities

Prior warehouse experience and familiarity with assembly, heavy lifting, and fabrication are advantageous. Duties

• Operate the wet end of the corrugator machine to produce high-quality corrugated board
• Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to ensure optimal operation
• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on equipment using hand tools and power tools
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform minor repairs or coordinate with maintenance teams
• Assist with fabricating parts or components as needed for machine upkeep
• Handle heavy materials safely during the loading and unloading processes
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the work area in accordance with safety standards
• Ensure production targets are met while adhering to quality control procedures

Requirements

• Mechanical knowledge with experience in operating or maintaining industrial machinery

Overall Job Objective

To provide the day-to-day Management of the production department and baler ensuring the safe and efficient running of the department is maximised through teamwork. Provide guidance and training of crews and individuals ensuring multiskilling and flexibility across all machines. Measuring shift performance against waste and productivity setting targets for machines. Apply continuous improvement processes and programs, working closely with the maintenance department. Closely communicating with the Group Operations Manager and liaising with other departments to ensure smooth operation and continuous running of all machines.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• To define with the, production, quality, waste, cost, and other targets necessary and give support to ensure these are met reviewing previous weeks’ performance.

• Monitor machine performance daily, weekly, and monthly to establish weak performing teams and implement improvement training programmes.

• Apply a continuous cost improvement process across the department looking at ways to reduce cost and measure savings

• To maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness within the production department, ensuring all cleaning schedules and audits are carried out as per company standards and on time. Ensuring all documents are completed in line with procedures and to the required standard and timeframe.

• To manage and develop staff within the departments and set goals.

• To see that crews are rotated where possible, providing regular and ongoing training so that running is always maximized, and output/quality does not suffer at any time.

• Ensure that all training records are kept up to date.

• To ensure the highest standards of Health and Safety are maintained within the department and that all Company and Legal requirements are met, promoting a safety culture across the factory.

• To ensure the production is completed within the requirements of BRC IOP standards maintained by the site.

• To ensure that all working practices are documented within operating procedures and that operators always comply with these methods.

• Regularly keep Operations Manager (until engineering) informed of issues affecting the quality and performance of the production machines and take-off system during weekly meetings with Maintenance Engineer.

• To act as an incident controller in the event of a safety or security emergency within production area.

• To contribute significantly to the production development and plans created to achieve this. To implement the necessary actions to achieve goals.

• To give guidance to the Shift Managers in achievement of targets and to provide training, support and actions where needed.

• To work as part of the Management team on site and to contribute to other parts of the Company when requested.

• To work closely with the quality assurance manager (QSE) in seeing that data is provided for regular quality comparisons and maintaining company and customer quality standards.

• To monitor performance and establish best working practices in order that high performing shifts are maintained.

• To take an active role in any job trials, new equipment installation and any production machine projects.

• To carry out any such assessments and appraisals that are deemed necessary.

• Implement and manage ongoing improvements within the TPM framework throughout the department and maintain standards set.
